The Wandering Wok Mysteries, Book 8
The bougainvillea is in bloom. The terraces are crumbling into the sea. And by Thursday, the man trying to save them is dead.
CC and Finn have parked the Wandering Wok on the seafront at Monterosso al Mare, where the queues for laksa stretch along the promenade and Niccolò Conti – charismatic director of the local heritage Foundation, knower of everyone’s grandmother, the man who arranged for them to be there – has welcomed them into a Cinque Terre summer of bright water, slow lunches, and Sciacchetrà drunk sitting down.
Then Niccolò is found dead. The police call it an accident. The Foundation board would prefer they keep calling it that.
Between serving laksa, frying anchovies the proper Ligurian way, and dealing with three cats who have developed strong views about Italian drain covers, CC begins to notice things. In a village where everyone loved Niccolò, the question isn’t who hated him – it’s who couldn’t afford to love him a little longer.
A deliciously cosy mystery served with Singaporean street food, the bright water of the Italian Riviera, and a small Italian village full of passionate opinions about absolutely everything.
