Harper Dade thinks the First Annual Willow Hollow Bake-Off is her chance to shine, until a fae contestant turns up dead amidst a scene of fondant mayhem. Things take a bizarre turn when her familiar, Knox, is found at the scene, dazed on catnip and coated in frosting evidence. Suddenly, he is the prime suspect in a murder case, and Harper must trade her piping bag for a magnifying glass.
With a fill-in sheriff more focused on closing the case than finding the truth and her magic glitching at the worst possible moments, Harper faces an uphill battle. Even Crank Cranson, the charming wizard mechanic, is distracted by his own familiar drama. (Since when do wizards have familiars?) Yet as another body appears and more familiars vanish, Harper realizes she’s tangled in a conspiracy layered with more secrets than a fondant anniversary cake.
Determined to clear Knox’s name, Harper sets out to unmask the real killer from a list of suspects as sticky as her icing-covered fingers. If she can’t, Knox’s fate will be sealed, and the fondant-covered peace of Willow Hollow will be peeled away.
